About this work
Page from a Book of Hours French, Paris, around 1500 This image has been cut from a small Book of Hours, and shows the Angel Gabriel announcing the birth of Christ to the Virgin Mary; the beginnings of the phrase 'Ave Maria' (Hail Mary) are just readable in the tiny gold lettering coming from his mouth. Bequeathed by Johannes Wilde 1970.
