About this work
The dynamic Christ Carrying the Cross, formerly attributed (incorrectly) to Murillo, is a study related to a sculpture by Alonso Cano of Young Jesus of Nazareth commissioned by a religious brotherhood in Madrid. The drawing exhibits Cano’s typically confident and expressive pen-and-ink style. (Permanent collection label)
