Bridget Riley: Learning from Seurat

Wed 6 Oct, 2021

An opportunity for Friends to see the new Bridget Riley display before the gallery opens to the public. In 1959 Bridget Riley painted a copy of George Seurat’s Bridge at Courbevoie, one of the highlights of The Courtauld Gallery. This experience represented a significant breakthrough for Riley and she went on to produce some major abstract paintings based upon repeated geometric patterns. Dr Karen Serres, Schroder Curator of Paintings and co-curator of this display, will give us a guided tour.

Followed by optional coffee and cake in The Courtauld Café, not included in the price of the ticket.
