Drinks Reception and Curatorial Tour: Bridget Riley: Learning from Seurat

Wed 22 Sep, 2021

In 1959 Bridget Riley painted a copy of George Seurat’s Bridge at Courbevoie, one of the highlights of the Courtauld Gallery. The lessons she took from Seurat emboldened her to strike out and over the following years she produced the first major abstract paintings based upon repeated geometric patterns for which she is famous today. Exhibition curators Dr Barnaby Wright, Daniel Katz Curator of 20th-Century Art, and Dr Karen Serres, Schroder Foundation Curator of Paintings, will lead a tour of the new display as they discuss Riley’s seminal moment of artistic discovery.
