Courtauld Alumna, Dr Frederica Law-Turner (PhD History of Art 1999) has been awarded the J. Clawson Mills Fellowship in the Department of Medieval Art and The Cloisters, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, to investigate the provenance and meaning of The Cloisters’ Unicorn Tapestries. This group of seven hangings, ostensibly depicting the hunt and killing of a unicorn in an idealised French landscape, is one of the most famous and spectacular but enigmatic survivals of the late Middle Ages. Dr Law-Turner will introduce the tapestries and some of her fascinating discoveries.
