The Seilern Triptych c. 1425, attributed to Netherlandish artist Robert Campin is one of the jewels in The Courtauld’s collection. We will explore the iconography of the painting in the context of the musical settings of Lamentations of Jeremiah. The practice of setting The Book of Lamentations was developed on the Continent in the early C 15th, contemporaneous with Campin’s work. However, we will focus today on one of the most famous of English settings, by Robert White (1538-74).
