Alumni Tour of CIMA

Tue 16 Nov, 2021

Courtauld alumni are invited for a tour of GIORGIO DE CHIRICO – GIULIO PAOLINI / GIULIO PAOLINI – GIORGIO DE CHIRICO at the Center for Italian Modern Art. CIMA’s exhibition explores the relationship between one of Italy’s most celebrated modern masters and one of its greatest living artists. Presenting works by de Chirico and Paolini together for the first time, the exhibition will focus on three themes fundamental to their respective practices: the enigma; the self-portrait and the idea of the ‘double’; and the manipulation of subjects from classical antiquity. This juxtaposition will recontextualize de Chirico, who is largely perceived as the precursor of Surrealism, by also illuminating his key contribution to the development of Conceptual art.

We are especially fortunate to have this private tour given by Giovanni Casini, the new CIMA Fellow coming from the Courtauld.

The event will start at 6pm. Prosecco and nibbles will be provided before the tour starts. We will also welcome Dr Kary Kelly, Director of Development who is visiting New York at this time.

Tickets cost $15 and are payable on the door.

Space are limited. Please RSVP to alumni@courtauld.ac.uk.
