Friends visit of Westminster Abbey 2

This event has passed.

The Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House, Strand, London

Thu 29 Apr, 2021

Due to enormous demand, I have secured another guided tour of Westminster Abbey. This tour will be led by Meg Bernstein, Kress Institutional Fellow at the Courtauld, Courtauld Associate Lecturer (BA1 Westminster Abbey) and PhD candidate in Art History at UCLA; this tour will also last for two hours.

Westminster Abbey is steeped in more than a thousand years of history, has been the coronation church since 1066 and is the final resting place of seventeen monarchs. The present church, begun by Henry III in 1245, is one of the most important Gothic buildings in the country with the medieval shrine of an Anglo-Saxon saint still at its heart.

A treasure house of paintings, stained glass, pavements, textiles and other artifacts, Westminster Abbey is also the place where some of the most significant people in the nation’s history are buried or commemorated.
The visit will be followed by an optional lunch.

Due to the limited number of spaces we cannot offer places to guests unfortunately.
