Facing the Future: Taco Dibbits

Taco Dibbits (1968) is the general director of the Rijksmuseum, the National Museum of Art and History of The Netherlands. Dibbits read history of art in Amsterdam and Cambridge (UK). He joined the Rijksmuseum as the curator of 17th-century Dutch painting in 2002 and in 2008 director of collections. In these capacities he played a pivotal role in shaping the new Rijksmuseum. He headed the team of curators responsible for the new display of the galleries which integrate paintings, sculpture, decorative arts and historical artefacts. He also developed the innovative digital strategy of the New Rijksmuseum. He was instrumental in the acquisitions of Jan Steen’s remarkable Burgomaster of Delft, and Rembrandt’s Portraits of Marten Soolmans and Oopje Coppit (acquired by the Dutch and French State). Furthermore he was closely involved in the successful Rembrandt-Caravaggio exhibition of 2006 and the Late Rembrandt show in 2015.
