Richard looks forward to sharing his path to becoming a fully realised illustrator and artist via his passion for drawing as a child, New York City in the 1970s, his career as a fashion designer and finally, how his life came full circle in Bushwick.
To Richard Haines New York City is an endless runway. He first moved to the city to pursue illustration and instead found a successful career as a fashion designer. Through fashion design he developed a keen eye for the often overlooked details of form, fabric and how a garment falls on the body. This laid a foundation for his illustration work and after years in the world of fashion design, his career has now come full circle allowing him to emerge as one of today’s most sought after fashion illustrators. His wildly popular blog, “What I Saw Today,” documents the clothes and attitudes of New York’s every day trendsetters and fashion icons of all ages. It is his fascination with the people behind the styles that informs his every stroke, propelling his work beyond mere sketches into the world where art and fashion intersect. His clients include Prada, J.Crew, Pennyblack, Il Palacio del Hierro, Calvin Klein, Coach, Georg Jensen, Bobbi Brown, Unionmade Goods, Barneys, Mr. Porter, Grazia, The New York Times Style Magazine, Man of the World, GQ and GQ Italy.
London based writer and editor Dal Chodha contributes to various international titles including Wallpaper*, ModernMatter and AnOther. In September 2008 he co-founded bi-annual lifestyle publication b Magazine, editing the title until its sixth and final issue in November 2012. Since 2014 he has been editor of non-seasonal fashion journal Archivist. He has worked on various projects in India, Brazil and North America for Burberry and, on behalf of METAL, was one of the first fashion journalists to travel to Luanda, Angola to report on the country’s emerging creative community. He is currently Acting Course Leader for BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and Imaging at UCA Epsom.
