The Courtauld Gallery, Somerset House, Strand, London

Sun 23 May, 2021

This afternoon’s music programme is the culmination of a yearlong project of collaboration with the Guildhall School’s Composition and Vocal Departments. Five young composers respond to The Courtauld Gallery and its collection, from connection to our spaces, to works such as Lucian Freud’s Girl with Roses (1947). These compositions form part of the students’ degree portfolios and will be performed by undergraduate singers and student instrumentalists in proximity to the art-work that inspired them.

George Evans, There is a Solitude of Space, Joaõ Vaz (tenor), tbc (violin)
Jake Dorfman, Girl With Roses: reflections on a painting by Lucian Freud, Kayleigh McEvoy (soprano), Helena Ricci (harp), Peter Davis (cello)
Dimitrios Rontsis, Savo, Amaya Pitharas (contralto), Helena Ricci (harp), Rachel Coe (clarinet)
Thomas Carling, Dead Friends and Living Friends, Katherine Adams (soprano), Jakub Chlepko (viola)
Piers Hudson, Moro, Lasso, William Thomas (bass voice), Piers Hudson (electric guitar)
