Dr Alexandra Gerstein, Courtauld Curator of Sculpture and Decorative Arts, will give an illustrated talk about the fascinating life and collection of Thomas Gambier Parry (1816-1888), philanthropist, amateur artist, collector and author. Many of the works in The Courtauld’s Medieval and Renaissance Gallery are from his formidable collection which was deeply influenced by his strong religious feeling; Gambier Parry was a devoted High Church Anglican actively engaged in the most pressing artistic and architectural debates of his day. The presentation will be followed by a drinks reception in The Gallery.
