Friends event with KTW London: Paul Feiler and Catharine Armitage at The Redfern Gallery

Thu 14 Oct, 2021

The Courtauld Friends have been cordially invited by our arts partner KTW London to a guided tour of Paul Feiler, Elusive Space: A Centenary Retrospective and a visit of Catharine Armitage: The Way She Sees It

These two exhibitions are running concurrently to showcase a large-scale retrospective of Paul Feiler’s paintings, works on paper and prints, as well as his widow Catharine Armitage’s oil on canvas works.

Paul Feiler was part of a group of internationally renowned artists who lived and worked near St Ives during the 1950s and 60s, which included Peter Lanyon, William Scott and Roger Hilton. Elusive Space: A Centenary Retrospective will feature key works spanning pivotal developments in Feiler’s career. The exhibition follows the artist’s major retrospective, One Hundred Years, at the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings earlier this spring, as well as a new monograph published by Lund|Humphries.

Catharine Armitage will present a series of recent paintings in the lower gallery inspired by her Cornish surroundings, often drawn to glimpsed views or distorted perspectives. It was Armitage’s association with the artist Paul Feiler, with whom she shared her life beginning in 1966, which triggered the greatest advances in her developing approach. This will be the first time the artist couple have shown together in the UK.
