Friends & alumni event: Jan Six XI and his Rembrandt discoveries

Friends & alumni event: Jan Six XI and his Rembrandt discoveries

Our cultural partner, The Dutch Cultural Centre, is thrilled to announce that in the year that marks the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt’s death, Jan Six, art historian, Old Masters dealer and direct descendant of Jan Six I, the Amsterdam mayor whose portrait was famously painted by Rembrandt in 1654, will share his passion for Dutch Old Masters, with a particular focus on Rembrandt.

Spectacularly, in 2018, Jan Six publicised two previously unknown paintings by Rembrandt: Portrait of a Young Gentleman (ca. 1634), and Let the Children Come to Me (ca. 1627).

On the basis of two case studies, one of which will be the Portrait of a Young Gentleman, he will give us an insight into his thought processes and talk about his research, the academic world and the art market.

The talk will centre on how you ascertain that you are dealing with a real Rembrandt and how you might subsequently persuade others to come to the same conclusion.

Doors open at 6.30pm. The talk will be in English and start at 7pm. There will be a cash bar.

This event has passed.
